Sugar ants. I don't think there is a single person out there in western Washington that can say they have not had to deal with sugar ants. These pest ants are also known as odorous house ants. A name given to this type of ant due to the pungent odor released when squished. "DONT SQUISH SUGAR ANTS" we will get to why that is so important later on this page. Sugar ants or OHA'S are the most common and prevalent pest ant species in the world, as well as the most common pest to encounter inside your home or office. They are attracted by the warmth, water sources, and smells of all our good foods packed with sugar and carbohydrates. Once they have discovered a resource to their liking, they will leave a pheromonal chemical trail back to the nest for the other workers to follow. The complexity of their social skills and ability to communicate with each other by non-verbal means is simply incredible. Furthermore, if sugar ants detect a physical, chemical, or biological threat, a warning signal will be sent back to the colony triggering a protective response. One of these responses is to split and bud. When sugar ants split and bud it is the act of dividing one large ant colony into multiple satellite colonies in order to protect themselves and their young. When a sugar ant colony divides in this way it makes controlling the pest ants that much more difficult and now, you're fighting a war on multiple fronts. If left unproperly treated these satellite colony's will continue to grow into large parent colonies of their own. This is why we say don't squish sugar ants! To make matters worse, allot of the chemicals that are readily available and marketed for ant control at your local stores are classified as repellant products. Repellant chemicals can be detected by sugar ants, perceived as a threat, and cause the sub-division into satellite colonies in turn worsening your sugar ant issue. The products used by reputable pest control professionals are classified as non-repellants. When mixed an applied properly non-repellant ant treatments are virtually undetectable by sugar ants. Also, over the counter repellant ant control products may simply kill the ants too quickly. I know what you're thinking. "IM SICK OF THESE ANTS! I don't mind if they die quickly." Well, you should. A proper pest ant treatment will allow time for the sugar ants to cross thru the treated areas without disturbance making them contagious and ready to spread the product thru contact with the other ants. This in conjunction with a non-repellent bait program that is also intended to allow the ants to return to the nest and share the product with the others will allow the ants to assist in their own demise. Sugar Ant colonies can contain tens of thousands of ants so the more ants that come in contact with the correct product and placement, the better and faster your control methods will be. At Evictor Pest and Wildlife Solutions we are highly trained and educated in most modern and scientific sugar ant control methods and use only the best most effective products for sugar ant control. Thru years of experience and continued educational programs. Our pest control representatives have the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to get rid of sugar ants once and for all.
